NYC Restaurant Week
Where I've eaten and where you should go as well!
Hi! Hello!
I am veering from my normal posting schedule to bring you a very important announcement! In case you didn’t know, it is restaurant week in New York City. Twice a year restaurants across the city offer fixed menus for $30, $45 or $60 and usually specials on bottles of wine as well. Some places offer a lunch or dinner option Monday-Friday and some also offer a lunch/brunch and dinner option on Sundays.
I really love trying new restaurants in New York City and I think Restaurant Week is a great way to visit new places at a really good price point. Certainly at lot of the places that participate you would spend a lot more on all the food included in the fixed menu.
The sweet spot we’ve found to maximize the return is to prioritize places that offer a $30 or $45 menu - this is usually where you get the best deal.
This year’s Restaurant Week runs January 21-February 9 so there is still time to squeeze in a reservation or two if you want to take advantage. You can check out the NYC Restaurant Week site here.
I will link menus below when I can!
This restaurant week, I’ve tried Nudibranch and American Cut Tribeca. I am planning to try Baar Baar an Indian Restaurant in the East Village, Noreetuh a Hawaiian restaurant with a killer wine list opened by three Per Se alums and Kimika, a Japanese-Italian restaurant before Restaurant Week is over.

Last Friday night we had dinner at Nudibranch in the East Village. The food here was very good but the people were so nice. I would come back here just to try the whole duck! The people next to us ordered it and we were envious. We shared and ordered frog legs, patatas bravas, the soba, the chicory salad, the grilled iberico pork and mushroom 3 ways. The cocktails were also good here and I enjoyed my balsamic negroni.

Earlier this week I met a friend at American Cut Tribeca and steak was on the menu! They offered us everything biscuits to start and the oysters I ordered were really good. We both ordered steak and I loved the peppercorn sauce. I had a Cracker Jack ice cream sundae to finish - boy was I stuffed!
My friend and I have made a tradition of using Restaurant Week as an excuse to have a steak dinner. In the past I’ve tried Strip House Downtown, Benjamin Steakhouse and Frankie and Johnnies. Steakhouses, while usually a $60 menu, will give you a lot of food and I typically bring home leftovers.
Others places I had my eye on this time were Cha Cha Tang, Kru in Brooklyn, Hortus and The Bazaar Bar.
The Dining Room at Gramercy Tavern has a lunch option - including Sundays although getting a reservation has proven difficult. The Bar Room at the Modern is also participating. The Modern is a restaurant at The Museum of Modern Art and we had my birthday lunch here a few years ago. They have two Michelin stars!
I will recommend some past Restaurant Week meals that I have enjoyed if you are looking for choices!
Last year I tried Bar Primi on Bowery and Suprema Provisions in West Village and I would recommend both if you want Italian food.
If you want to try Indian food I’ve done Restaurant Week at Jazba, Baar Baar and Junoon. Masalawala & Sons is perhaps one of our favorite Indian restaurants in NYC - so if you can grab a reservation, definitely check them out.
Catch NYC and Lure Fishbar are two scene-y Seafood places - somewhere to go to people watch and be seen - and I don’t think that I would visit if it wasn’t Restaurant Week. Last year I tried Lure Fishbar in SoHo. They are fighting keeping their location because of the luxury store expanding upstairs. The year before we went to Catch NYC and the eavesdropping was 10/10 here.
Lore is an Indian fusion restaurant in Park Slope. They just got Michelin recommendation. The fish and chips are a must order.
There’s still time if you want to check out any or all of my suggestions. Let me know where you end up eating - would love to add them to my list if they aren’t already!
Take care and eat well,
Savannah
